How to get your data from Amazon (including Alexa)
This guide shows you how to easily get everything Amazon has recorded about you from them.
Not only does this include shopping related data but if you have an Amazon Alexa enabled device (this can be anything from an Echo, Echo Dot to a third party Sonos Play device) you can get a sound clip of every recording along with a file with how your Alexa enabled device interpreted that sound. Visit the Amazon Contact page for your region, for example these are the links: Amazon US: https://www.amazon.com/hz/contact-us Amazon UK: https://www.amazon.co.uk/hz/contact-us
From here select the "Prime and more" or "Prime or something else" menu. You will be provided with two drop down options:
Perhaps the situation will improve but at the time of writing, it can take weeks for Amazon to provide you with all your data. When they do, it can look like this:
The Alexa data contains an index in the form of a csv file that lists everything that Alexa heard along with the sound recording. The important thing to note is that Alexa does not record everything - it only records after hearing its trigger word, which defaults to Alexa but can be changed.
An example of the Transcriptions.csv file can be seen below which includes the date and time, what alexa heard and the name of the sound file that is also contained in the download.
